The typical risks of your sector
- Vehicle lifts and hoisting — two tonnes suspended above a technician, several times a day
- Vehicle movements in the shop and the yard — pedestrians and vehicles share the same lanes, often in reverse
- Chemicals and solvents (WHMIS) — degreasers, paints and pressurized fluids handled daily
- Handling tires and heavy parts — backs and shoulders strained at every seasonal changeover
- Hot work (welding, grinding) — sparks and burning-hot surfaces near fuel
Fine exposure
Not having a prevention program is an offence under s. 236 of the LSST — from $2,115 to $4,226 per statement of offence for a legal person (first offence, 2026). If the absence of measures contributes to compromising a worker's health or safety, s. 237 applies: from $21,127 to $84,519, and up to more than $400,000 for repeat offences.
